LAURA BOREALIS / LAURA CRAPO
Laura Borealis was the professional name I used from 1988 to 2010 for my work in film, music, photography, acting, and visual art. Borealis was a nickname given to me by my grandfather, and I adopted it because, at the time, people had a tendency to make fun of my actual surname, Crapo.
As a result, much of my earlier work—including albums, films, music videos, exhibitions, and other credits—appears under the name Laura Borealis. Some of my CDs and LPs also list my former website, lauraborealis.com. I no longer own that domain, and its current website is not affiliated with me.
Eventually, I returned to my original name, Laura Crapo. Ironically, it turned out to be the more distinctive name: there are considerably more Laura Borealises than Laura Crapos in the world.
So, for anyone who has arrived here through an old record, film credit, photograph, or other work by Laura Borealis: yes, that’s me.
